The Department of Earth, Atmospheric, and Planetary Sciences at Purdue University invites applications for a postdoctoral position in Mars geochemistry and mineralogy. The successful candidate will join Prof. Briony Horgan and the Mars Science Laboratory (MSL) rover science team starting in August/September 2016.

Duties will include laboratory analyses of terrestrial analog samples, processing and analysis of MSL data, participation in MSL operations and team activities, and processing and analysis of Mars orbital datasets.

Eligibility: All applicants must have a PhD in the field of geology or planetary science. U.S. Citizen or U.S. Permanent Resident status is also required per federal regulations.  Expertise in geochemistry, mineralogy, or spectroscopy is preferred.

The Instituto de Astrofisica de Atacama (IAA) at the Universidad De Atacama (UDA) in Copiapo (Chile) invites applications for two faculty positions to join the IAA team.
The successful candidates will join a group of five faculty working on a broad range of research topics and will have access to the Chilean Time in a broad array of facilities, including ALMA, VLT, Gemini, Magellan, LSST, GMT and the E-ELT. 

We are particularly interested in candidates with strong experience in one or more of these fields: 

-Origin, structure and evolution of planets, satellites, and minor bodies in the Solar System; 
-Extrasolar Planets; 
-Formation, structure and evolution of stars; 
-Milky Way: stellar populations, star clusters, variable stars, galactic structure; 
-Terrestrial Mars analogs; 
-Astrobiology. 

The positions carry teaching duties in astronomy at the undergraduate level, with a load of 6h per week. The working language is English. While knowledge of Spanish is not required (teaching can be done in English), the successful candidates are expected to teach in Spanish within two years. 
The appointment at UDA will be for three years, with a first probation year, and the position is further extendable subject to performance.

The science covered by the department Planets and Comets (one of three departments at the MPS) includes a wide spectrum of planetary research. We study the structure and composition of planets in our solar system as well as dynamic processes. The main focus lies in the research of the terrestrial planets (Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars) and the gas giants (Jupiter and Saturn) as well as small bodies including comets and asteroids. We study similarities and differences among the various objects and compare them with each other to better understand the evolution of our solar system.

Solar System School students collaborate with leading scientists in these fields and graduates are awarded a doctoral degree from the renowned University of Göttingen.

The Space Physics and Planetary group at the Laboratory for Atmospheric and Space Physics (LASP),
University of Colorado is involved in several space flight missions. We have a level 1 (post- doc)
position available, analyzing data from the MAVEN mission. The focus of the level 1 position is on
Mars ionosphere analysis using data from the Langmuir Probe and Waves (LPW) instrument with
support of data from all other instruments on the MAVEN spacecraft.

POSTDOCTORAL SCIENTIST: PLANETARY CLIMATE MODELING

Columbia University: 2-year Postdoctoral Research Scientist appointment to model radiative processes and their effect on planetary climates in a general circulation model.

The successful candidate will join an interdisciplinary team from the Goddard Institute for Space Studies (GISS), GSFC, Columbia University, and other institutions. Team research addresses the habitability of past Solar System climates and exoplanet climates and informs the design of future exoplanet missions. MAVEN Postdoctoral Researcher in Mars Magnetic Fields

Applications are now being accepted for a Postdoctoral Research Associate, funded through the University of Maryland College Park (UMCP) and the Center for Research and Exploration in Space Science and Technology (CRESST), to work in the Planetary Magnetospheres Laboratory of the NASA Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC) investigating Mars magnetic fields using data from the MAVEN (Mars Atmosphere and Volatile EvolutioN) mission.

The MAVEN spacecraft arrives at Mars in September 2014. MAVEN will study the upper atmosphere and ionosphere, atmospheric interaction with the Sun and solar wind, and the loss of atmosphere to space. Collaborating onsite at GSFC with scientists in the Solar System Exploration Division, the candidate will work directly with the Magnetometer Investigation, participating in data analysis and scientific studies, leading to publication of results in scientific journals.

The MAVEN primary mission will last one Earth year from the start of the science mapping phase in November, with an expectation that there may be an extended mission.  The appointment will be initially for one year, with the possibility of renewal in subsequent years.  Applicants may be at first year post-doc level or may be more senior.

Candidates should have a Ph.D. in a relevant discipline with experience conducting scientific research related to the Maven science objectives or the types of instruments included in the MAVEN science payload. Disciplined IDL and Fortran programming skills, demonstrated scientific writing ability, and experience in acquisition and analysis of data (especially magnetometer data) from space flight instruments are highly desirable.
