The Faculty of Engineering and Sciences (FES) of Universidad Adolfo Ibáñez (UAI) in Santiago, Chile, seeks applications for up to two open rank faculty positions in the area of exoplanet and planetary science beginning as soon as March 1, 2021.  All candidates in exoplanet or planetary science, broadly defined, are invited to apply. We are particularly interested in the following areas: planetary interiors, atmospheres, habitability, and studies of solar system objects. For one of the positions we are looking for applicants in the area of theoretical or computational astrophysics. Candidates should have a demonstrated potential or ability to pursue a high impact research program.

The successful candidates will join Professors Rafael Brahm, Andres Jordan and Gijs Mulders  at the newly created Astrophysics group at FES/UAI focused on exoplanet and planetary science. The chosen candidates are expected to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in Physics, Astronomy, and related fields, in Spanish and/or English. Candidates do not need to be fluent in Spanish at the moment of applying. The successful candidate will have access to 10% of all telescope time on major facilities in Chile, including VLT, ALMA, Gemini, Magellan, and other telescopes in the country, as well as access to future facilities such as the GMT and E-ELT. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. As a reference, an Assistant Professor should expect an annual remuneration ranging between 36 and 48 million CLP (approximately 46,000 and 62,000 USD at the current exchange rate, respectively). This salary does not include potential additions from grants or research contracts.

Upcoming Planetary Science Research Positions at NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center

The Heliophysics and Planetary Science Branch at NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Alabama, plans to offer multiple positions seeking scientists to conduct research and develop applications to solve challenging Planetary Science problems. Outstanding candidates have the potential to be selected for federal employment, joining more than 30 other federal employees, academic staff, and contractors supporting Planetary Science efforts within the Branch, a subset of the Science Research and Projects Division, and the Science and Technology Office at Marshall Space Flight Center.

Research Space Scientist positions will be offered for researchers in planetary science, with expertise in remote sensing of planets, moons, and asteroids, and the development of instrumentation for planetary science investigations. The selected candidates will add substantive capability synergistic with the current staff and the goals of NASA’s Artemis program and MSFC’s strategy to integrate human space flight and science robotic capabilities in the Artemis era. The candidates will have an opportunity to lead the development of research proposals for new activities, execute funded projects, and share their accomplishments through conference participation and appropriate peer-reviewed literature.

The positions are expected to be announced in autumn 2020 under the category of Research Space Scientist and at the GS-13 grade level. Successful candidates will have had experience applying advanced tools, techniques, and/or data analysis/mining/machine learning techniques to datasets collected with remote sensing measurement techniques. Candidates should have made regular contributions to a research team with some guidance and direction, developed new analysis techniques to solve challenging problems, made contributions to peer-reviewed proposals in response to technical solicitations, and have contributed to peer-reviewed publications as part of a demonstrated publication record.

ESA Project Scientist position for Mars Sample Return mission

The successful applicant will work in the Astrobiology Center as a member of a group led by Dr. Stephen Kane. The primary research activities in this group cover a broad range of exoplanet and astrobiology topics, including planetary science, exoplanet detection, characterization, orbital dynamics, atmospheres, and habitability. Typical data sources used within the research group are Kepler, Keck, Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS), the Automated Planet Finder (APF), MINERVA-Australis, the Deep Space Climate Observatory (DSCOVR), and various ground-based photometric telescopes. The Postdoctoral Scholar will also be encouraged to pursue their own research program and collaborate in the various astrobiology research programs being undertaken in the UCR Astrobiology Center.

Candidates must hold a PhD in astronomy, physics, planetary sciences, or related field before their start date. Experience in the fields of exoplanetary and/or planetary science is preferred. 3 POSTDOCTORAL POSITIONS IN MARS SCIENCE

The Department of Planetology and Habitability at the Centro de Astrobiología (CAB) invites applications for three postdoctoral positions to support investigations on the nature of the early Mars environments. We are seeking enthusiastic and excellent candidates to join a planetary science team funded by the European Research Council (ERC), working with Dr. Alberto Fairén in the Project “MarsFirstWater” (ERC Consolidator Grant) broadening the efforts of the Project “icyMARS” (ERC Starting Grant).

Applicants should have a recent Ph.D. in the field of Planetary Science or related discipline, and a background in Mars research. Expertise in Geomorphology/Sedimentology, Geochemistry, and Microbiology, respectively for each of the positions, is required.

The 3 positions, placed in Madrid, would be for two years, with possible extension to a third year contingent upon satisfactory performance.
