The Department of the Geophysical Sciences at The University of Chicago invites applications for the T.C. Chamberlin Postdoctoral Fellowship. We seek outstanding scientists who lead creative investigations into the nature of Earth and other planetary bodies — their physics, biology, chemistry, climate, and history — and who have a desire to participate in the broad intellectual life of the Department and the University. Start date is negotiable, with a target of October 2018. The initial term of the Fellowships will be one year, renewable for a second year. A competitive salary will be offered, plus benefits. Berea College invites applications for a tenure‐track appointment in Geology/Earth Science (or closelyrelated field) starting fall 2018.

Teaching responsibilities will consist of core introductory geology courses such as Physical Geology, more advanced Geology/Earth Science courses in the applicant’s area of expertise, and eventual contributions to Berea’s general studies program. While Berea College’sGeology program has been inactive recently, its long history started nearly a century ago and has produced many successful geologists. The successful applicant will have a Ph.D. in hand, help rebuild the Geology Program, and begin teaching and pursuing undergraduate research in Berea College’s brand new Margaret A. Cargill Natural Sciences and Health Building, slated to open in summer 2018.

Introduction: The Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (APL), a national leader in scientific research and development, located midway between Baltimore and Washington, DC is seeking a Post-doctoral Researcher to undertake interdisciplinary planetary science research as part of the Space Exploration Sector’s Planetary Exploration Group. Job Summary: The successful candidate will engage in research on the thermal and physical properties of the lunar regolith and polar regions. Working with scientists on the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter mission, the candidate will analyze data from the Diviner and Mini-RF instruments. These data will be compared to other relevant data sets. A model will be developed to interpret the results with respect to the distribution and stability of volatiles in the lunar polar regions. A candidate who has experience in both remote sensing data analysis and computational modeling is especially desired. Duties (Listed in order of importance with the estimated amount of time spent at each task): Supporting the Diviner and Mini-RF science investigations, including participating in team meetings, conducting research, publishing results, and presenting the results at one or more professional conference yearly. (75%) Developing a thermal model of volatile stability in lunar regolith, including conducting research, publishing the results, and presenting the results at least one professional conference yearly. The Universities Space Research Association’s Lunar and Planetary Institute (LPI), invites applications for a postdoctoral fellowship that will address a variety of investigations related to the hydrologic evolution of Mars. Applicants, with recent PHDs, should have a strong background in math, hydrology, groundwater modelling (MODFLOW), and computer programing (FORTRAN and/or Matlab). Additional experience in one or more of the following: planetary science, remote sensing, and/or Global Climate Modeling, is preferred but is not a prerequisite for selection.

The successful candidate will work with Dr. Stephen Clifford at the Lunar and Planetary Institute in Houston, Texas. The position is for two years, with a possible extension to a third year. The candidate is expected to work half-time in support of Dr. Clifford’s NASA-funded research and half-time on their own individual research projects, which may utilize the computational and analytical resources at LPI and the nearby NASA Johnson Space Center. The candidate will be encouraged to propose for external funding, participate in grant review panels and analysis groups, and become further involved with spacecraft missions.

At the LPI, the successful candidate will interact with scientists with a broad range specialties and backgrounds, including Astromaterials, lunar science and exploration, Mars, Venus, and icy/ocean worlds. LPI scientists maintain active collaborations with the Astromaterials Research and Exploration Science (ARES) group at Johnson Space Center and with faculty in the geosciences departments of Rice University and the University of Houston.

The applicant will join a broad-based team of scientists and engineers to advance JPL’s Planetary Science research that excels in applying remote sensing data, in-situ measurements and state of the art models to planetary geophysics. Determining the interior structure and dynamics of planets, moons, and small objects is key to better understanding of the formation and differentiation of Solar System objects. The scientific scope of interest for this position is broad, but candidates should have demonstrated expertise in one of the following areas: Modeling of signal propagation in solid bodies and atmospheres, with applications, for example, to icy satellites, Mars, Venus, and giant planets; Processing of geophysical data, in particular seismic signals, over a broad range of frequencies; Material mechanical properties and their dependence on several parameters including pressure, temperature and forcing frequency; and/or Modelling of planetary internal processes. The selected applicant is expected to participate in or lead science definition and advancement of new science, technology, and mission proposals.

 

The applicant must have a PhD in Geology, Geophysics, Physics, or a related technical discipline.  The applicant shall have an established reputation along with a broad knowledge of planetary measurement approaches and expertise in modeling and interpretation of the data for planetary science applications.

The Department of the Geophysical Sciences at The University of

investigations of the past Mars climate and atmosphere. The successful
candidate will work with Assistant Professor Edwin Kite to modify and
run Mars mesoscale models and Mars global climate models, and analyze
the output of those models. The emphasis of the work will be on
processes that operated early in Mars history and during the
transition from Mars’ early wetter climate to the present dry climate.

Science, or Astrophysics, and experience with modifying sophisticated
