Take a Stand on Proposed Regulation to Limit Duration of International Student Visas (Deadline: 26 October)
As you may have heard, the US Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is in the midst of a regulatory change for international student visas that would limit visa durations to 2 or 4 years depending on country of origin. The deadline for commenting on the proposed regulation is Monday, October 26th, so now is the time to make your voice heard.
The proposed regulation may be found at: https://beta.regulations.gov/document/ICEB-2019-0006-0001. An American Immigration Council (AIC) summary of the proposed regulatory changes may be found at:
https://www.americanimmigrationcouncil.org/sites/default/files/general_litigation/summary_of_notice_of_proposed_rulemaking_09252020.pdf.
AAS President Szkody will be filing organizational comments on behalf the Society, but the AIC is strongly encouraging individual comments. To date, over 22,000 comments have been filed. Our friends at the American Physical Society are generously making available to AAS members their user-friendly interface for filing comments. Please go to https://p2a.co/AXj9Ptc and follow the instructions there. Let DHS know the impacts that these proposed changes would have on you and your immediate colleagues.
