Working in conjunction with the Quantum Sensing and Timing Group at the Air Force Research Laboratory, Space Dynamics Laboratory is looking for a person with the desire to be both a scientist and engineer in the field of frequency comb devices, specifically microcombs.  This position is very much like a post-doc, with a strong focus on hands on experiments and results. The lab itself is an experimentalist’s dream, outfitted with state-of-the-art instrumentation, electronics, and apparatus.

Our goal is to use microresonator based photonic devices to make atomic navigation and timing systems. However, the problem is that no one really knows how to use microcombs devices reliably and robustly for applications beyond a research lab environment.  That’s where you would come in; to help solve the challenges of understanding and using microcombs both inside and outside the lab.

A successful applicant will participate in and contribute to on-going research programs within the group. It will also be necessary to be able to obtain and maintain a US government security clearance in order to hold this position; however, the research itself will not be classified.  Since this position most closely aligns to a traditional post-doc, the initial appointment will be for one year, with the potential for renewal contingent on funding and performance.

Required Qualifications:

· Advanced degree in physics, optical/photonic/electrical engineering, or a related field

· Must be a US citizen and able to obtain a US government security clearance

· Must be willing to live and work in Albuquerque, NM

Desired Qualifications:

· PhD in physics, optical/photonic/electrical engineering, or a related field

· Experience with microresonator photonic devices

· Demonstrated high-level laboratory work in the field of physics or photonics

· Demonstrated ability to work independently and adapt to new projects and technical areas

· Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to present challenging scientific topics clearly and the ability to create well-written technical report

· Excellent team member with the ability to work in diverse teams

· Highly creative and curious in a laboratory environment

· Experience with the theory, design, and control of microresonator based photonic devices

· Experience with optical frequency combs based on microresonators, fiber lasers, or free space lasers
