Description
The Department of Physics at Hampton University invites applications for a junior faculty position at the Assistant Professor level to begin in fall 2022. Successful applicants will have demonstrated excellence in teaching, a strong commitment to undergraduate and graduate education and a well-developed plan to establish an active research program with student involvement. All fields of research will be considered, including those at interdisciplinary boundaries.  

Founded in 1868, Hampton University is a leading historically black university (HBCU) located on the Virginia Peninsula, in the City of Hampton.  It is a privately endowed, co-educational, non-sectarian institution of higher learning with accreditation by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools and the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia.

The Department of Physics offers the Bachelor of Science in Physics, and Master of Science and Ph.D. in Physics. 

Duties and Responsibilities
Responsibilities include teaching, research, external funding, publications, creative and scholarly activities, and community service. Faculty will be expected to teach both the undergraduate and graduate lecture and research courses as assigned. Additionally, faculty must prepare and/or maintain current course syllabi and outlines; develop course expectations; sustain expertise in specialty areas in teaching, research, and professional development; advise and register assigned students; participate in recruitment and retention activities; keep accurate academic/student records. Faculty members are expected to conduct and utilize research for the integration and discovery of knowledge. They are also expected to represent the University, the School of Science, and the Department of Physics when participating in professional organizations, meetings and conferences, and community activities. 

Qualifications
Successful candidates should have a Ph.D. in Physics or a closely related area/discipline by the time of appointment. Preference will be given to the candidates with a recent Ph.D. in Physics within 5 years, postdoctoral experience, and a proven record of journal publications in experimental nuclear physics or optical physics and materials development.
