DPS Membership Classes

Full Membership

Open to any person deemed capable of preparing an acceptable scientific paper on some subject of astronomy or related branch of science. Full Members normally possess a Ph.D. or equivalent.

Associate Membership

Open to any person seriously interested in the advancement of astronomy or related fields. Associate Members enjoy all the benefits of Full Membership except that they may not serve on the Nominating Committee or on the Council of the Society.

Junior Membership

Open to any person under 28 years of age who is seriously interested in the advancement of astronomy or related fields. Full-time students age 28 or beyond who are pursuing a degree in astronomy or physics are entitled to Junior Membership upon furnishing proof of their full-time student status.

Junior Members have all the benefits of Full Membership except that they may not serve on the Nominating Committee or on the Council of the Society. New/first time Junior Members receive the first two years of membership for the price of one year.

Emeritus Membership

Open to anyone who is retired and has been a member of the AAS for at least 10 years. Payment of dues is waived, and meeting registration fees are reduced. All journal subscriptions are available at the regular member rate. Requests for Emeritus Membership must be submitted in writing to the Executive Office.
