ASTRONOMY COORDINATOR

Pending availability of funds, the Department of Physics and Astronomy of the University of Tennessee, Knoxville intends to hire a full-time non-tenure-track lecturer to serve as coordinator of our general education astronomy courses starting August 1, 2015.  This individual’s responsibilities will include classroom instruction in general education astronomy, supervision of general astronomy laboratory sections taught by graduate teaching assistants, and assistance for physics faculty teaching general astronomy courses.  This non-tenure-track position is renewable yearly, contingent upon evidence of excellent teaching, demand for instruction, and availability of funds.

Successful candidates must provide evidence of effective teaching of general education astronomy or physics and hold a Ph. D. in Astronomy, Physics or related disciplines.  Experience with telescopes equipped with GOTO systems, CCD cameras and computer/software for astronomical imaging is highly desirable.

The University of Tennessee, Knoxville, has a career ladder for non-tenure-track lecturers.  After five years of full-time service, lecturers are eligible for promotion to Senior Lecturer; Senior Lecturers may be offered multi-year employment contracts.
