DPS LODGING -- HOTELS NEARLY SOLD OUT, RESERVATION DEADLINE SEPTEMBER 8
Both the Sheraton and Hilton Hotels are nearly sold out of our
reservation block; fortunately the Hilton was able to increase our room
block slightly and agreed to do it at the same guaranteed rate. I do not
know how many more rooms they may have or be willing to let at the $135
rate. The Sheraton was unable to increase our block there, but does
have a couple rooms opened up by cancellations, so it might be worth a
try to fill those. If you get a "sold out" response either on the web
or by phone, try again for a cancellation or an expansion of the room
block. REMEMBER THAT THE BOOKING DEADLINE IS SEPTEMBER 8. After that
date, neither hotel will offer the conference rates other than to
fill a cancellation.
In anticipation that we will overfill both hotels, I can suggest
two alternatives:
1. If you would be willing to share a room, which would dramatically
reduce your expenses, please send an email to awharris @ spacescience.org
and I will try to match you up with another DPS attendee. Be sure to
include your full name; gender; whether you have a reservation,
or are looking to share with someone who does have a reservation;
your arrival and departure dates; and smoker/non-smoker.
2. There are a few other hotels within walking distance of the
Convention Center, and a large number starting at about one mile
distance along Colorado Blvd. Here is a list in order of distance
from the meeting site:

Rates at the Westin are around $240, at Courtyard by Marriott around
$200; all of the others are small motels with rates of $100 or less
for most rooms.
