FEDERAL RELATIONS SUBCOMMITTEE NOMINATIONS REQUESTED BY APRIL 12
The DPS Federal Relations Subcommittee, currently chaired by Alan Stern,
is elected by the members of the DPS Committee to keep our community
informed of current developments in government science policies, to
provide information to Congressional committees and governmental
agencies about the DPS, to maintain close connections with other
allied professional societies, and to propose recommended courses
of action for the DPS Committee.
The DPS Committee solicits nominations for two additional FRS
members. We seek candidates with experience in dealing with
Congress and federal funding agencies, and a willingness to devote
time and energy to this important work. With the current federal
budget being decided over the next few months, the new members
would begin their work immediately upon their election.
Please submit all nominations (or self-nominations) by e-mail to
the Chair (rfrench @ wellesley.edu) with Subject: FRS Nomination.
For each nomination, please include:
- a brief paragraph describing the nominee's qualifications for the
position
- for other than self-nominations, a copy of e-mail from the
nominee indicating a willingness to serve if elected. Please
enclose this confirmation within the body of the submission,
not as a separate e-mail or an attachment.
Nominations are due by April 12. The DPS Committee will vote on
the nominees shortly thereafter, and announce the results
to the DPS community once they are final.

HOUSE APPROPRIATIONS COMMITTEE MEETING ON MARCH 30
The House Committee on Appropriations will be meeting at 10 AM on
March 30 (tomorrow) to discuss the NASA budget. NASA Administrator
Michael Griffin will be testifying.
Congress has paid close attention to communications from scientists
about concerns with the NASA budget, as we know from recent
Congressional hearings. If your representative is a member of the
House Appropriations Committee, this would be a good time to inform
him or her of your own concerns, either before or after the hearings.
A FAXed letter is much more effective than email. Here is
information about how you can contact your representative:
