MARS AERONOMY WORKSHOP PRELIMINARY ANNOUNCEMENT
Washington, DC
August 18-19, 2004.
In order to help meet the new challenges offered by NASA's newly
announced Vision for Space Exploration, the NASA Solar System
Exploration and Sun-Earth Connection Divisions are jointly
sponsoring a Mars Aeronomy Workshop to consider the goals
for future studies of the Martian upper atmosphere/ionosphere
and to assess possible missions for their implementation.
This workshop will be held August 18-19, 2004, in the
Washington, DC, area at a yet-to-be identified hotel.
This and other logistic information will be posted on the
web site below on or before July 14:
http://argyre.colorado.edu/life/aeronomy_workshop
The Mars Aeronomy Working Group (MAWG), chaired by
Prof. Bruce Jakosky of the University of Colorado, will
organize this Workshop. The MAWG charter is also available
at the web site above.
The purpose of this Workshop is to provide a forum in which
goals and opportunities for studies of the Martian upper
atmosphere/ionosphere can be openly discussed and critiqued
by the community at large. Its results will be made publicly
available in the form of a brief "white paper." The NASA
Headquarters contacts for this effort are Dr. Mary Mellott
([email protected]) and Dr. Denis Bogan
([email protected]), either of whom may be contacted
for questions.
