MEMBERSHIP RENEWALS
DPS/AAS membership renewals were mailed out by the AAS in early
October. If you have not received yours by now, please contact the AAS
at [email protected] to request a copy. Please note that renewals also
allow the opportunity for members to make a donation to the Division if
desired.
Please note that as approved by the DPS membership in the 2003
balloting, the Junior Affiliate membership category has been
discontinued. Former Junior Affiliate members are now being billed at
the regular Division Affiliate rate.

subcommittee is available on the DPS web page:
http://www.AAS.org/%7Edps/subcommittee.html
Suggestions for nominees for the 2004 elections can be sent to Hal at
[email protected].

NASA PDS ONLINE ARCHIVE FACILITY (OLAF) NOW AVAILABLE
Groundbased observers are invited to submit their data to the NASA
Planetary Data System at
http://dorothy.as.arizona.edu/olaf
At present, submissions are limited to datasets consisting of tabular
CCD spectra of solar system objects obtained at groundbased telescopes.
The facility will be expanding in coming months to include time series
data, laboratory spectra, catalogs, and FITS images.
Data submitted to the PDS are peer reviewed during regularly scheduled
reviews throughout the year (see
http://pds.jpl.nasa.gov/qs/peer_review.html ). OLAF allows additions to
be made to a dataset prior to the review for which that dataset is
scheduled (the submitter will be notified in advance).
Citation information for datasets and their individual products
submitted through OLAF will be sent to the NASA Astrophysics Data
System Abstract Service (ADS) once the review process is completed and
the data are ingested into the PDS. The data will then be publicly
accessible through PDS and ADS (linking to PDS as it would a journal).
Questions and feedback may be directed to Mark Sykes
([email protected]).

INFORMATION FOR NASA PLANETARY ATMOSPHERES GRANT HOLDERS
From, Denis Bogan, PATM Discipline Scientist [email protected]
This is the time of year to finish all remaining FY03 business. If you
are expecting FY03 money and have not received it yet, through either
your fault or mine, please email me and explain. Renewals for 2nd and
3rd years require a brief progress report to the Discipline Scientist
(DS). This report should briefly give: progress in the previous year,
list of publications and presentations in the previous year, and work
plan for the upcoming year. This is discussed in the ROSS NRA. Please
submit progress reports by email, either as attached files in Word or
PDF, or plain text in the body of an email. I now do all processing
of renewals electronically; it is much faster and easier. The budget
for 2nd and 3rd years is as given in your original award letter, unless
you have since been notified otherwise. The renewal progress report
requires no institutional signatures. If your institution insists on
doing that let them, but in the meantime send it to me electronically.
It will also speed things if you provide the inclusive dates for which
you are requesting the renewal, and the grant or contract number, as
well as your name. We are under continuing resolution awaiting
congressional and presidential approval of the FY04 budget. If this
process leads to undue delay I will try to notify those who were not
competitive in the recent proposal review so that they can plan their
proposal writing activities and schedules for the coming year. This
note applies only to the Planetary Atmospheres program.
