CHANGES REGARDING USE OF LCD PROJECTION AT DPS 2000 MEETING

Some questions have been raised about the limited formats available for LCD
projection during talks at the upcoming DPS 2000 meeting. To remedy this, we
are expanding the list of acceptable formats to include HTML and QuickTime
presentations, in addition to the previously mentioned PowerPoint format.
Presenters may also suggest other PC compatible formats, provided that they
are freely and easily available. Please provide your suggestions to the LOC
chairs at "dps2000@lively.jpl.nasa.gov" no later than Monday, October 16, 2000.

Presenters are reminded that their presentations should be brought to their
sessions on PC compatible floppy or Zip-100 disks. Presenters are also
reminded to bring backup hardcopy of their vugraphs in the event of technical
problems with their computer presentations. Session chairs will be advised
not to allow any additional time for technical glitches. It is important
that each session stays on time.

We cannot accommodate switching personal laptops for each talk because of the
time required for warm-up and/or rebooting, plus the probability of technical
glitches.

NEW ICARUS WEB SITE: ELECTRONIC SUBMISSIONS

The editors and staff of Icarus are pleased to announce that new and revised
manuscripts, as well as reviews, can now be submitted directly via the Web.
Details and instructions can be found by clicking the "Information" link on
our new web site at:

                         http://icarus.cornell.edu

We are using a (hopefully) user-friendly manuscript and review submission
program that has been successfully used by Geochimica Cosmochimica Acta for
hundreds of papers for over a year. Confidentiality and integrity are
maintained by password-only access to manuscripts for authors and reviewers
and a highly secure server architecture. We are indebted to Dr. Bob Nichols of
Washington University and the GCA office for helping us get the site online
and tailored to the specific needs of Icarus and the DPS community.

Some parts of the new Icarus site are still under construction, but the
manuscript and review submission pages are active and online. The information
and content on the "old" Icarus web site will still be accessible for a short
time as it is being transitioned to the new site. Also, the current Icarus ftp
site will be phased out in the near future, replaced by the direct WWW
submission process.

The editors and staff welcome your comments and feedback (positive as well as
negative!) on the new manuscript and review submission process. We fully
expect to have to "tweak" the process some in response to community feedback,
but we also realize that there will be NO WAY that we can please everyone at
once within our diverse community. We ask for your patience and understanding
as we try to move Icarus into the 21st century and to make our publication
process more streamlined. Please send any comments that you have to me at
jimbo@marswatch.tn.cornell.edu with a Cc to office@icarus.cornell.edu.

                                                     Jim Bell
                                                     Icarus Assistant Editor

NASA PLANETARY DATA SYSTEM SURVEY REQUEST

Dear Colleague,

As recently appointed Project Manager of the Planetary Data System (PDS), I
am committed to providing the best possible support to you, the planetary
science community. I know from speaking with some of you and from my own
experience using the PDS that improvements need to be made. In order for me
to understand the most critical needs, I have produced a short on-line
questionnaire. This survey is intended for all members of the planetary
science community. If you use the PDS, we want to learn how well it meets
your needs. If you do not use the PDS, we would like to find out why. In
either case, the results of this survey will help us improve the PDS and
better serve you. If you are interested in participating please fill out
the form at

http://pizzicato.jpl.nasa.gov/survey/survey.html

Also feel free to contact me. Thank you for your interest and concern.
