Below is a summary of these new or clarified policy items. Speaker's rule, abstracts: A) A non-DPS member may be first author for a contribution (see below) only once, ever. After the first presentation, they must join the DPS to give subsequent papers. B) At each DPS meeting, there will be only 1 abstract/person as first author. This abstract can be for an oral, poster OR title only paper. No exceptions will be made for contributed talks. C) Invited talks and talks on education do NOT count in the speaker's rule. D) Each abstract will be assessed an abstract fee. If the person who is first author registers for the meeting, this fee is included in the registration. If they do not register, they are still expected to pay the abstract fee. Workshops, working groups and other subsidiary meetings: We endorse the concept of small, informal meetings during the DPS meeting. -- DPS will provide a number of breakout rooms and AV setups for limited time periods. -- These sessions are intended to be workshops -- No catering functions will be arranged by the DPS -- We will be happy to include a title for the workshop and contact person in the DPS meeting announcement if it is received by an announced deadline -- More information (including a description) can be included in the e-mail newsletter (but not the meeting announcement) 2---------2---------2---------2---------2---------2---------2---------2 DPS members should have received their bills for 1996 by now. If you haven't (or if your bill is incorrect), please contact Sharon Savoy: Sharon Savoy, Membership Coordinator ssavoy@aas.org American Astronomical Society TELE: (202)328-2010 2000 Florida Ave., NW, Ste. 400 FAX: (202)588-1351 Washington, DC 20009 Please note that if you were required to join the DPS in order to present a paper at the Hawaii meeting, the dues paid should have applied to 1995, and a renewal is now due for 1996. However, if you joined late in the year (at or since the meeting), and not as a requirement to give a paper, we will credit your dues payment for 1996.
